Sun Dried Tomato Pesto

Sun Dried Tomato Pesto
1 (8-12 oz.) jar sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil
4 medium garlic cloves, peeled
2 whole flat leaf parsley sprigs
10 fresh basil leaves
8 jumbo pitted olives
1 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
2 green onions, roughly chopped
1/3 grated parmesan cheese
2 (4 oz.) goat cheese rounds (I used mozarella, as I don't like goat cheese)
Combine all ingredients, except goat cheese, in a food processor fitted with steel blade.  Process, using on-off pulses, to make a slightly chunky pesto.  Add additional olive oil if needed for a loose consistency.  Spoon over Goat (fresh mozarella) cheese rounds and garlic bagel chips, or best of all the Cayenne Toasts.  Makes 8 to 10 servings

Cayenne Toasts

Cayenne Toasts
Long, little French Bread
TOPPING:
1 cup olive oil
2 tsp red (cayenne) pepper (maybe only use 1 tsp if you don't like spicy)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp finely ground black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp onion powder
Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.  Prepare topping; In a 2 quart bowl, whisk all topping ingredients until blended, set aside.  Using a serrated knife or electric knife, cut French bread into slices about 1/4 inch thick. Lay slices in single layer on ungreased baking sheets.  Using a pastry brush, lightly coat 1 side of each bread slice with topping.  Whisk mixture often while using so that seasonings do not settle to bottom of the bowl.. Dry in preheated oven until very crisp, about 1 hour.  The texture should be similar to Melba toast.  Removed from baking sheets; cool on wire racks.  When completely cool, store in airtight containers until served or up to 2 days.  Cooled toasts can be packed in freezer containers and frozen up to 2 months.  Recrisp frozen toasts in preheated 350 degrees F oven 5 to 7 minutes. Serve with Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto or a salad or soup  Makes 12 to 18 servings.

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
 March 17, 1842
“Do not injure the character of any one - if members of the Society shall conduct improperly, deal with them, and keep all your doings within your own bosoms, and hold all characters sacred... “

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
March 30, 1842
“All must act in concert or nothing can be done.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
April 28, 1842
“He exhorted the sisters always to concentrate their faith and prayers for, and place confidence in those...whom God placed at the head to lead - that we should arm them with our prayers....”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
April 28, 1842
“Don’t be limited in your views with regard to your neighbors’ virtues, but be limited towards your own virtues, and not think yourselves more righteous than others; you must enlarge your souls toward others if you would do like Jesus,
As you increase in innocence and virtue, as you increase in goodness, let your hearts expand - let them be enlarged towards others...”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
May 26, 1842
“Put a double watch over the tongue...the tongue is an unruly member - hold your tongues about things of no moment - a little tale will set the world on fire.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
May 26, 1842
“Fret not thyself because of evil doers.  God will see to it.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
June 9, 1842
“Pres. S. Said that henceforth no person shall be admitted but by presenting regular petitions signed by two or three members in good standing in the society - whoever comes in must be of good report.
“Harriet Luce and Mary Luce were receiv’d into the Society by recommend.”
“Objections previously made against Mahala Overton were remove - after which Pres Smith continued his address - said he was going to preach mercy.  Supposing that Jesus Christ and angels should object to us on frivolous things, what would become of us?  We must be merciful and overlook small things.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
June 9, 1842
“Nothing is so much calculated to lead people to forsake sin as to take them by the hand and watch over them with tenderness.  When persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what pow’r it has over my mind, while the opposite course has a tendency to harrow up all the harsh feelings and depress the human mind.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
June 9, 1842
“All the religious world is boasting of righteousness - tis the doctrine of the devil to retard the human mind and retard our progress, by filling us with self-righteousness - The nearer we get to our Heavenly Father, the more are we disposed to look with compassion on perishing souls... If you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on one another.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
June 9, 1842
“We are full of selfishness - the devil flatters us that we are very righteous, while we are feeding on the faults of others.”

Joseph Smith’s Sermons - Relief Society Minutes
August 31, 1842
“Little evils do the most injury to the church.  If you have evil feelings and speak of them to one another, it has a tendency to do mischief.”

Neal A Maxwell Quote:

“I testify to you that God has known you, individually, for a long, long time.  (See D&C 93:23) He has loved you for a long, long time.  He not only knows the names of all the stars (see Psalm 147:4, Isaiah 40:26); He knows your names and all your heartaches and your joys!  By the way, you have never seen an immortal star; they finally expire.  But seated by you tonight are immortal individuals - imperfect but who are, nevertheless, ‘trying to be like Jesus’!”

I don't think I emphasized, but meant to, that small and simple things--a strand of silk, a grain of wheat--are building grand legacies by daily accumulation.

Here are some other resources from writers and scholars that speak to women's role, power and blessings in God's plan.  They are written by faithful members of the church who have researched and/or pondered these things.

Valerie Hudson is a noted writer who was recently published in the Ensign with an article on Equality in Marriage.  She taught Political Science at BYU for 25 years and now teaches at the Bush School of Government in Texas.  She is a very faithful Latter Day Saint.  She is a passionate advocate for women and children and has some fascinating insight. She has co authored an excellent book; Women in Eternity, Women in Zion a few years ago.  Valerie runs an online journal that has great thought provoking articles.  Sometimes she writes under her maiden name of Cassler.   Within that journal you can find just about everything she writes on.  Two great ones in particular can be found here:

http://www.squaretwo.org/Sq2ArticleCasslerRubySlippers.html

Her online journal is www.squaretwo.org

Another great online resource that speaks and writes to defend Mormonism.    http://www.fairlds.org/

BYU Studies is full of articles and many can be downloaded free at https://byustudies.byu.edu/

There have been some beautiful articles written in the past few years in the Journal of Mormon History by scholars who have researched healings that were done by Relief Society women and the evolution of that.  Also a great article about Women at the Gates of Mortality (Relief Society Birth and Death Rituals).  They are very instructive for further study and thought.  If for some reason these links don't work for you, let us know and we will just put the reference for you to look up. You can find the Journal of Mormon History down at the Church History Library and probably most university libraries.  You can also access some things online digitally with it.
